FLOURISHED Wednesday

This week for Flourishes I am sharing a candy wrapper and tag along with a wonderful Christmas card. Here I wrapped a pack of gum with Basic Grey papers, tied it off with a ribbon, and completed it with a stamped tag. I used Flourishes Sweet Treats set as the inspiration.

I know this doesn't sound glamourous but it's practical... I used my paper scraps to make this card. The main red paper is textured and then dry embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. I had used a Spellbinders Nestability die to cut out the rectangle for a previous project. This scrap worked out well as a frame for my stamped image. I also used hardware from The Angel Company. With these guys I made an indentation in the middle with my Crop-a-dile and filled them with red Stickles. I love this effect! I also used the red Stickles on the holly berries. By the way this stamp is very easy to color. It's just the right amount of open areas to fill-in to make for a fast card. You can find it in Flourishes "Rejoice" stamp set.

Sketch Me IN!

Heather, Oz-Somestamps, had a sketch on her blog. Here's what I came up with. I love this layout... it's fun and easy. The only hard part about it was to fit a sentiment into the semi-circle. I went ahead and put the sentiment in the main area and then stamped an image in the semi-circle. I don't know if you can make it out... it's another bug but upside down.

Have a wonderfully blessed day and thank you for visiting me today.

SMILES,
NG.

Birthday GIRLS

I just love this stamp from smARTworks. It's called "Four Sisters". I've only included three of the four sister here. It reminds me of me and my sisters. Although we look much different than these little ones. Can you guess where I fall in the three? If you guessed the oldest you would be correct. I am the oldest of three daughters. How sweet it is to have my sisters, Brenda and Cassandra.

RETIRING...

The Angel Company has announced "The List". That's right... the list of retiring stamps. The next TAC catalog will make its' debut around the first or second week of January. Unfortunately I won't be at the official debut because it will done at the TAC Winter Retreat in San Antonio.

Here's a link to the complete RETIRING LIST. Thanks to Heather of Oz-Somestamps for letting me use her link. She's a Director with The Angel Company and I often see her mentioned in the TAC newsletters. Her stamping is unique and awesome! I love her style.

Along with the stamps sets retiring some of the papers will be retiring too. These papers have been specially priced until they sellout. From the Wing it Collection you can choose from Surfe Shoppe, Vintage Holiday, Simply Spooky, and Whimsy Blossoms. All on sale for $3.50. These papers come as a 36 sheet pack in 8x8 papers.

Also specially prices are two of the Soar With It Collections... Kaleidascope Brites and Bella Flor. You can snatch these sets for just $10 each while supplies last! This is a fabulous deal! It comes with 18 sheets of pattern card stock, the monogram and alphabet stickers, and die cut tags.

Yes, it is sad to see all these products go... but that means that TAC is making room for fabulous items to take their place!

If you would like to purchase any of these retiring items please visit my on-line store at http://nancygrant.ismyangel.netor send me an email at nancygrant@gmail.com with your order.

I am currently taking sign-ups for the new catty that is due out in January. If you want me to send you one of the new TAC catalogs/idea books let me know. You prepay for the postage and I'll take care of sending you a fresh new catty at no additional charge. WHAT A DEAL!

Monday FUN

I thought I'd get this one posted before my day really gets into full swing. The Missions Conference at my church is going well. It is so neat to fellowship with and to listen to our visiting missionaries testimonies. We've had some good preaching too!

I did Julee from Poeatic Artistry's Mojo Monday Sketch Week #8 over the weekend but didn't have a chance to post it until now. The sentiments are in the love theme but the card itself has a baby shower card feel. That's not what I was going for... anyhow. I still like it and I hope you do too.

Have a blessed Monday ladies and Andrew (My husband has been getting into the habit of checking my blog these days so I better not forget to include him in my well wishes.)

Tutorial: Photo Holder

I had a FunShop a couple Saturdays ago where we made these photo holders from large clips. I find it so crazy that it took me this long to get the tutorial done. I apologize for the delay and I hope you find this helpful.

SUPPLIES:
Clip (Extra large works best.)
Designer Papers
White Cardstock
Ribbons
Stickles
Stamp from the"Holiday Magic" set, The Angel Company
Ink
Double Sided Foam Tape
Wonder Tape
Regular Tape
Circle Scallop Die (Spellbinders Nestability)
Big Shot
Scissors

DIRECTIONS:
1) The clip I had on hand is large sized. (The extra large clips work best and give the most support.) The dimensions would be larger or smaller depending on the size of your clip you use.

2) Tuck a slight portion of the 1 1/4" x 2" paper under the lip of one side of the clip and wrap completely around to the opposite side.

3) Tape the paper wrapper to the clip with the Wonder Tape.

4) Stamp your image onto the white cardstock twice.

5) Cut out the stamped images leaving a slight boarder to frame the image. Color and embellish only one of the stamped images.

6) Die cut a piece of coordianting designer paper with the scalloped circle.

7) Align the stamped image onto the scalloped circle and secure tape with Wonder Tape.

8) Trim the designer paper across the bottom to complete the scalloped frame.

9) Tape the ribbon to the back of the scalloped frame.

10) Tape the second stamped image to the back of the scalloped frame. This piece will be used to help sandwich the ribbons in place and to add stability.

11) Place a strip of the double sided foam tape to the back of the sandwiched scalloped frame and adhere the clip.

TA-DAH!!! There you have it. An altered clip to hold a picture, note, place card, etc.

Beate's Weekend Challenge #25

This weekend Beate's sketch challenge was to complete the Z-Fold card from her tutorial. I did mine as a card for my husband, Andrew. I needed a little something to thank him for the gifts that he brought back for me from his Chicago trip. Inside the sentiment reads, "You're My Knight In Shinning Armour". The papers and hardware are from The Angel Company, Amelia Soar With It Collection. I love these rich colors and the hardware totally rocks.

Sentiment Stamp Unknown

SMILES & Tag-ged X's 3

It has been a great time getting to know the incredible bloggers that make up our stamping community. It is always a blessing to read your comments and emails of support and encouragement. I am always surprised when I find myself given any of those blogging awards that go around. The latest of the of which was the "You Make Me Smile Award". Jana of 2 Worlds mentioned me as one of the ladies that make her smile. Thank you Jana for making me feel so special to be included in your group of inspirational ladies. Big SMILES!

Tag-ged X's 3:

7 FACTS OF ME GAME
Suzy of Paper Monkey tagged me with the 7 Very Random and Weird Facts game. I am stumped at the moment so please see my previous posts on this one. Me

Right after I posted this I found out that Mary Duffek of Moe Joe Designs also tagged me with the 7 facts game. She's an Alaskan native too... half Aleut whereas I am half Inupiat. Very cool!

5 QUESTIONS GAME:
Norma J of Ditty Dots tagged me with 5 Questions:

1. If you could have $100.00 worth of scrapbook paper or assorted embellishments, which would you choose?
Oh that is a tough one. I use both so much with my paper crafts that it makes it so hard to choose. It would be easy to store the paper but embellishments are such a treat. That's it. I would choose the embellishments.

2. If you had to choose between using only stamps or rub ons, which would you choose?
For sure that one would be STAMPS! I love them so!

3. If you knew how to do both awesome cards and layouts, but could only do one for
a whole year... which would you do?

Although I started out scrapping, I would definitely stick it out with cards.

4. Would you rather own a scrapbooking store or have your own scrapping room at
home....(can't have both. he.he.he)

I would love to have a stamping store but I am content with having my own scrapping room. Less stress there and then I could still spend my time with my little daughter.

5. And last but not least, what is your CURRENT card making or scrapping style....
Style? Uhmmmm.... I tend to distress everything (Basic Grey style) but my eye loves clean and simple. I don't know what my style is other than "Miscellaneous".

THE NAME GAME:
I was tagged by Rita Holmes of Stamp Crazy with the name game. Since I've done this one before I thought I'd play with the name of my town.. BARROW. Now I need to list one fact that is somehow relevant to my life, for each letter.

B= Babble... sometimes I can go on and on.
A= Alaskan... I am an Alaskan Eskimo from the North Slope of Alaska of a people called the Inupiat.
R= Round... I have a round face and chubby cheeks. This makes me a jolly looking woman.
R= Relaxed... thank God that I have a relaxing life. I am so good at dotting it with business.
O= Offering... my life is an offering to God.
W= Whimsical...playfully quaint. That's me.

PHOTO DETAILS: Although I made the Eskimo girl bookmark clip Rebecca Grohall took the picture. You can visit Rebecca at Bella Carta.

Thankful THRUSDAY

UPDATE: We are hosting Brother Ron Downey serving God in the country of Wales. Thanks for asking.

Today is the beginning of our missions week at church. Although the official meetings don't start until Sunday we will be hosting a missionary in our home starting tonight. I have the guest bathroom sparkling and the linens clean and fresh. We are ready for our guest to arrive. I am thankful to be able to be a host. It's something that God has been growing me for. :-)

In honor of being thankful I'd like to share two thank you cards I made earlier this week. Both are done with The Angel Company limited edition stamps from August.

Wednesday...

UPDATE: Jean had asked if I sponged the background. Yes, I did sponge the background after I had ran it through my Big Shot. I did it after so I would know where to distress the area the most to make the embossing pop. Thanks for asking Jean.

Here it is the middle of the week and I don't even know the date. That's what has happened to me since I don't go to work everyday.... I loose track of the date. I didn't realize how much I had not paid attention to this detail until tonight. There are some application deadlines that I need to have done soon so I better pay better attention to the date not just the day of the week.

Barrow has had some internet interruptions over the weekend... wanna see my number one internet interruption? (See the photo to the left.) Her name is Ellie and she officially can get to places that I never imagined possible. This is the one I get most often when I am trying to do computer work. It's an effective way for her to get moved up to my lap and then played with. I am so blessed to have a child that wants me 24-7. I'm not being sarcastic here. We prayed for God to give us a baby for so long and now we have a healthy daughter. Praise God for such a blessing. :-)

The card I am posting today was a Di Hickman sketch (I think. I can't find where I saw it now and I'm not sure if I have it quite right. Sorry ladies.) She has an awesome site doesn't she? I used the same papers as yesterday's card for Beate's Weekend Challenge. I had a terrible time coming up with one for this sketch. It doesn't look that hard but it was for me.

I hope you had an enjoyable day. Thanks again for visiting me today.

Big SMILES!

Beate's Weekend Challenge #24

I am so glad that Beate has chosen another "easy" sketch for this past weekend's challenge. I love to do the square cards but that size just doesn't fit in with all the envelopes I own. Instead I try to keep my creations to the standard A2. Basic... boring... I know. Anyhow, the size isn't what gets me it's figuring out what stamps to use. I usually have the paper picked and then it takes me 30 minutes to find just the right stamps. I guess that's the challenge part. It's worth the effort. :-)

Thanks again Beate for the sketch challenge fun!

25 Days to Christmas

My stamping pal, Laurie of Stamping for God's Glory, got an awesome gift from her husband the night him and Andrew flew in from Chicago. She got a Zutter's Bind-it-All! The stamping store only had one in stock so Laurie wound up with it. Last night I had a chance to go over and check it out. It's so cool! It was Laurie's idea for me to make a countdown calendar to Christmas with my Flourishes stamps. So here's the first and last page of the Countdown Calendar/25 Days to Christmas. Laurie also graciously let me use some of her new paper and embellishments to make for a vintage Christmas theme.

It's a precious little calendar that I owe all to my friend, Miss Laurie "Bean" Serino. Thanks FRIEND! :-)

Check'n IN

So it feels like forever since I was last here. Boy, have I missed seeing everyones blogs and such. I want to thank the many ladies that have left me comments and sent me encouraging emails. What a blessing to be thought of. Thank you from my heart.

My husband made it home safely and on time last Saturday night. I am glad his flight was not delayed. He had his hair trimmed. It's always nice when he visits the barber to get his hair cut. It saves me the time from doing it for him. I am not trained in hair cutting so I take about a week of praying and then I have him sit in the kitchen on a folding chair for the hour long ordeal. It takes me so long because I really don't know what I am doing. He's too handsome to sport a bad haircut so I praise God that it turns out okay. While waiting for his luggage he told me that he visited two stamping stores in Anchorage to get me something special. I had to wait until we arrived at home and lugged in all the totes to see what he bought for me.

Wanna see my loot? Here it is.... ribbon, Basic Grey 6x6 papers, specialty brads, two templates, specialty glue, printed vellum, and twine. What a sweet treat.

He also got Little Ellie some treats too. Two cute new sleepers and some teething relievers. Thankfully she's too small to expect new toys and candy when Daddy comes back from a trip out of town. She's satisfied to be able to play with the totes as we unpack them. These are very practical and wonderful gifts that I am going to enjoy too. Of course I won't be using them on myself. Maybe they will help her cry less and feel better during her painful bouts of cutting her new pearly whites.

Hello

Boy, has it been busy-busy. I've been playing single mommy as my husband has been away. Today he'll be doing our grocery shopping in Anchorage today and will be home tomorrow. Whenever we have the opportunity to travel we both try to wrap-up the trip by scheduling a layover in Anchorage for shopping. It's such a blessing to be able to stock-up on food and supplies. This has lead to us not owning luggage anymore. Instead we have a ton of Rubbermaid totes in assorted colors and sizes. That's what it is like to live in the bush. Anyhow, I am so looking forward to Andrew's return. Not for the goodies, but for his companionship and time. What can I say? I'm in love with the fella! :-)

I've had a secret.... I've been working. It's a temporary job so the commitment is short term. Right now we are working on a deadline and I've been trying to get as much work done as I can for my Supervisor before we are out of time on our project. I've also been asked to make some wedding invitation A.S.A.P. On top of that Ellie is teething and not sleeping through the night. I am bushed.

This morning we have a Well Baby check and immunizations. Poor thing! I hope you all have a wonderful day. I know mine will be filled with blessings and prayers.

Thank you so much for visiting me today.

Smiles,
~Nancy

PHOTO DETAILS: I was on my way home yesterday and saw that the ice had come in again. It often comes in and out until freeze up. I used my camera phone to snap the shot so it's not the best of quality. Anyhow, I wish you could see how fast it was moving along the ocean waters and hear the trickles and bumping of the ice. It is awesome to know the handiwork of God. His creation is mighty indeed!

Repete Design

I love this stamping design! I couldn't help but re-do it again. This time it's been Flourished. I think it's totally cool how the sketch maybe the same but the look is different. This design does not use any designer paper and is easy enough that a new stamper could play with it. Maybe next time I'll paper piece some of the stamped images.

Stamping Diva Sketch Challenge

Whew.... I am barely getting this one in before the deadline. I've had it done since this afternoon. It's just a matter of getting it off the camera and posted. Ooops... I just noticed that the deadline has been extended! YEAH!!! I can try again!! You can get one in too. Go check-out Toni's blog, Stamping Diva for all the details.

I used Flourishes stamp set called "O Christmas Tree" for this one. I also used a Cuttlebug embossing folder on the background paper but you really can't see the texture that it added. The bows are from the presents. They were so easy to cut out. Anyhow, I need to get a going. Laurie is have some girlies over at her house to stamp and scrap and I'd like to get over there before it's bedtime. I usually don't stamp or scrap but I like to go for the fun of it.

Mojo Monday #7

One part of blogging that I love are all the sketch challenges that are out there. There are so many these days and so little time. This afternoon I pulled out my stash of images that my blogging friends have sent me and sat down at the kitchen table and started coloring. Well, if I can't stamp at least I can color. Once little Ellie was down for her afternoon nap I headed to my desk to work on Julee's Mojo Monday #7 Sketch Challenge. In order to get one of my colored images to work for Julee's challenge I had to flip the sketch. I hope you had a chance to do Julee's sketch too. I know I had fun. :-)

Blog BLESSINGS!

It has been such a blessing to meet and grow friendships with all my stamping/blogging friends. It sure has made my transition into a stay-at-home mom FUN. As our little daughter has grown over these last ten months my time with stamping and blurfing has become shorter and shorter. I have come to realize that keeping a schedule (even at home) is a great idea. I don't know where to start yet with getting myself on track but I know that I need to do something and soon. I guess I have started... to-do-lists. That's my first step for now. Knowing what all I need and want to do helps. Okay back to what I was really getting at... BLOG BLESSINGS!

Thank you Kim, Michelle, and Jen for sending me some love this month. I received your RAK's! Thank you - thank you!

Besides receiving all the fun mail from above, I also received a wonderful surprise email from Jennifer of Stampin' Crazy. She had located the "Doodle Alphabet" that I have been trying to get my hands on! I am so EXCITED to have this set on the way. YIP-EE!!! Thank you Jennifer for keeping an eye out for me. I really appreciate it! :-)

Saturday FunShop

UPDATE: I plan to post the instructions for the clip frame soon.

I had six lovely ladies come to my FunShop yesterday. That's a good turnout for up here and a great group size for me to work with. Not too many and not too few.... just right. :-) We made a Sarah G. inspired card and a Candi D. creation called a "Clip Photo Holder". Both are in a Christmas theme. So here's a couple of photos of our FunShop projects. I regret that I didn't get any snapshots of my guests. Maybe next time...

Special thanks to Sarah G and Candi D for your inspiration and thank you ladies for coming to my FunShop.

Little Princess

Hey there, I am busy working on a FunShop that I am hosting tomorrow. It's been fun thinking about having company over and stamping together. Usually I am nervous about having company over but this time around I just want to have some fun. Everyone coming over are my friends so why not....we should have fun. :-)

I'm not gonna post our projects until after the party because some of the ladies check my blog from time to time and I want them to be surprised. I will say we will be making two items in a Christmas theme. :-)

So here's one I made a while back. She what I call a little princess. I bought this set from TAC before it retired. I think at the time I was wishing that I would someday have a baby girl of my own to use it for making things for her. That dream has come true. I thank God everyday for my young daughter and grownd-up son.

Thank you for visiting me today. Big SMILES!

My FLOURISHED Wednesday

I finally did it... I made a card with Flourishes "Peace" set. Wouldn't it be nice if there were peace on Earth? So many things would be different. Anyhow, this card has lots of shimmer but it looses it in photo-translation. I used daubers to apply the two different colors of Versa Magic Chalk inks and then went over them with Shimmer Chalks. Lastly I embossed the white snowflakes on the very top. What you really don't see well is the Pearl Ex that I sprayed on. I used a mix of hair spray and gold and blue Pearl Ex for the background. Laurie, Stamping for God's Glory, say that this card has been "Nancy-ized". Meaning that it's my signature style.

The second card that I am posting today was done with Flourishes "O Christmas Tree". I know it's not a traditional Christmas card but I love it! I used part of a sketch from the September '07 Page Maps set as the inspiration for this layout. The colors were chosen to match the strip of Basic Grey designer paper that was positioned across the middle. It makes me happy to think that the holidays are soon to come. I can't wait to be in the company of my family. What a blessing to know we will be together again so soon.

Name Tag

Teri, BIG Ideas from a Little Girl, tagged me today. Here's the details of this tag (as copied and pasted from her blog):

The NAME GAME. The name of the game is to list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life, for each letter of your middle name. If you don't have a middle name, use the name you would have liked to have had. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog post containing your middle name and game facts. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged and to read your blog.

S - Salvation. What a joy to know Christ as my personal saviour and to have a personal relationship with Him.
T - Testimony. We all have one whether we know it or not.
E - Exhort. It is a joy to be an encouragement to others.
L - Light. This little LIGHT of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. :-)
L - Love - "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
A - Adoration. To love and respect (someone) deeply.

These are the things that come to my mind of words associated with the letters of my middle name.

S - Sarah, LadyGil Designs/Sarah's Studio
T - Tracy, Tracy's Happy Place
E - Eva, Stamp S'more
L - Laurie, Stamping for God's Glory
L - Leslie, Running With Scissors...
A - Awna, Allinkdup

PHOTO: I spied this rainbow Saturday. It had been a while since I last saw a rainbow so I turned around and went to the ocean to snap this photo. What an awesome sight to see and to be reminded of God's promise to the world.

Hello

Here's one for today. It's blue and white with a tad bit of silver. I used my Spellbinder dies that I bought from Flourishes to cut the vellum and sentiment paper. I just love how easy these dies are to use. I have a Big Shot and I use the multipurpose platform with the regular plates with Spellbinder dies and to emboss I use the multipurpose platform with the purple pads that I got with the regular Sizzix embossing plate sets. This combination works like a charm and love it. :-)
