Bumper Tag

Bumper Card Society Game and Rules from Crafty Engineer:

Okay, the rules are simple:

1) Send ONE card to someone you know within 7 days! (family, friends, associates, cyber people, etc.) ANYONE!!! Doesn't matter who... just do it. Can you imagine the smile on their face when they open their mailbox and see a card from you?
2) Tag (yes, I know, but this is the only way to spread this) 5 people you know to do the same thing (Tag means tag them to send their own cards to their own people).
3) Proudly display this on your blog to spread a little sunshine and pass it on.

If you get tagged again (we can all hope, can't we), send another card! You don't even have to mail... put one on your husband's dashboard of his car, your coworkers desk, your neighbor's doorstep, and so on and so forth.

Corie from Creations by Corie tagged me... I'll be sending out some cards in tomorrows mail. Thank you Greeta & Corie for the reminder to "pay it forward".

SUNDAY Evening Walk

Here a couple of thing I saw on our evening walk last night. The weather was a warm 50 degrees and it was so lovely. Too bad the birds weren't out like they had been over the last few weeks. Maybe they are already flying south?

Another Sketch Challenge - Tracy's Happy Place

The sketch challenge of the month over at Tracy's Happy Place was to do a masculine card using the SCS Sketch No. 99. I started out using paper as the sketch sample appeared but it just wasn't coming out right. Today I haven't had a lot of stamping time and it wasn't until Daddy came home and played with baby Ellie that I finally finished this one. It's kinda hard to see that I used two different stamps to make the background match the sketch. I also couldn't fit the sentiment on the front with the knight in the middle. So I squished him over a tad and added the sentiment on the side of the knight vertically. Andrew loves the outcome. He's a guy and since this is to be a guy card I feel good about not re-doing the challenge. Yea!! I'm done.

Sentiment is from an unknown company

Check It OUT

Hey, did you see the blog candy over at Nancy Kirk's blog yet? She is celebrating the Grand Opening of Flourishes with some blog candy. Go check it out! Seaside Creativity, BLOG CANDY

Two MORE Cards

The Angel Company's Vintage Holiday paper has been very fun to use and I've had it in my stash since last November! Shame on me. My plan was to have a FunShop before I left to have the baby but I never made enough time to fit it in. Speaking of the baby... I just put her down for a short nap. When I think of her I thank God for His miracle in our little daughter. Oh how I love her and my grown-up son. :-) Back to stamping... here's one I did with Beate's weekend sketch challenge yesterday. I mixed Paper Trey stamps with a Flourishes stamp. I love those three little dots from Flourishes Cake Decorating 101 set. This is the second card I've made using the dots as corner embellishments. This card reminds me of where I grew-up. In Salinas we were surrounded by strawberry fields. My Mom makes fresh strawberry jam from those very strawberries. It's all our favorite. Fond memories indeed.

I was going to make a second with the same design at the same time but instead I played with the scraps and made this "U Sweet Pea" card. I better get off the computer before the baby wakes...

The Angel Company

If you hadn't noticed already I have wings. This means that I am an Angel (demonstrator) with The Angel Company (TAC). I signed-up with TAC a little over year and a half ago. My husband was really interested in me continuing to stamp and he especially liked the benefits of me being a demonstrator. Since my best friend here in town is a Stampin' Up! demonstrator I didn't think it would be wise to go with SU! and I was also shy about their quarterly minimums. I really wasn't interested in teaching technique classes or doing parties. This meant that if I wasn't willing to work at getting a client base that I would have to buy enough product myself to stay active to receive the demonstrator benefits. Besides that we live in a remote area with no roads to other towns. There was already two other SU! demo's in town. Could Barrow really support another SU! seller? It wasn't long before The Angel Company found me through an acquaintance. Since then I have done a couple of FunShops (workshops) and I get orders regularly. I have been able to meet my quarterly minimum requirement with ease. My plan is to keep on going with The Angel Company as far as it will take me... one baby step at a time.

If you spend an average of $100's every four months on stamps and supplies YOU might be interested in getting your wings too. The benefits of being an Angel is well worth it... it's just more FUN. I haven't listed out the full details as to not bore those not interested... so please feel free to contact me at: nancygrant@gmail.com if you have questions or would like further information.

With that being said, I would like to warmly welcome Jen Young of Pieces of Me who received her Wings this week. That's Jen in the photo. Congratulations Jen and welcome to The Angel Company!

Just for FUN

I stamped today just for fun...and I tell you what it felt good! I used The Angel Company's July Stamp of the Month called "Stand Tall". I don't know what it is about this set. I just love it! The background paper is from TAC's Vintage Holiday 8x8 scrap paper pack. I know it's not Christmas paper but the designs are so versatile that it even worked well with these jungle animals.

New TOY

Look what I made with my new Crop-a-dile. I used this tool to punch the hole in the side of the cool whip container and attach it to Ellie's toy. I usually put Ellie on the kitchen counter so she can watch me cook dinner. She likes all the action. One of her favorite thing to chew on has been this silly plastic bowl but every time I would have my hands busy she would drop it on the floor. Then I got clever and attached it to the hanging toy already in place. She was intrigued for the first few minutes. Now she's learned to take it off. I don't know which one of us was more clever me or here? BIG SMILES!

All my Love

This one was fun to make. It's a postie note holder. I started with the flower petals. These were punched with a SU! Oval punch. From there I stamped the smaller oval from Flourishes Cake Decorating 101 set in Versa Magic Chalk ink on the punched petal. The smaller SU! oval punch was used to make the smaller petals. These petals were stamped with Flourished Words also from Flourishes. Throw-in Prima's Hydrangea flowers and a blingy brad and there you have a complete paper flower. I coupled three Flourished Word stamps to form the phrase "All My Love" for the background paper. Bookbinding tape holds it all together and the postie note pad in place. All the printed papers are from Basic Grey's Infusion set.

As part of the Grand Opening of Flourishes you can purchase the Flourished Infusion Combo Kit at 15% off. This kit includes both stamp set, the Infusion paper, and two yards of ribbon. If you need some inspiration you can also check-out the Gallery.

Dreams Come TRUE

FLOURISHES is now open! As much as this is a dream come true for me to be on a design team it is also a dream come true for the entrepreneurs of Flourishes. Congratulations ladies for this long awaited Grand Opening Day! May your efforts, vision, and hopes be realized this day and for many years to come!

OH how exciting!!! You can shop for these versatile and beautiful stamps (Flourished Words & Cake Decorating 101)at http://www.flourishes.org. Stop on over and check out their line of premier designs, papers, ribbons, and more.

UPDATE: I just saw the Flourishes banner on Split Coast Stampers!!! How exciting!!!

JEN's Sketch Challenge...ButterFLY

Even though I was in the midst of moving my crafting area, I managed to make this card yesterday morning. I felt like a big kid sitting on the floor using my light box as a tabletop. I don't know what was more challenging trying to find my scissors in the unorganized mess or keeping my legs from falling asleep from under me. Either way I did finish just one project. YEA!!!!

I used Jen's sketch challenge which is more of matchbook challenge to make this little card. I used a white blank card as the base. Trimmed it down and scored the bottom to form the matchbook closure. I used my Big Shot to emboss the closure with a Cuttlebug folder. The stamps are a combination of Paper Trey and Flourishes. I think they blend so well together. The designer papers are from Making Memories and the ribbon is from Martha Stewart's collection. I also used Scrapbooker's Floss made by Karen Foster for the antenna and loose beads to form the butterfly body. This is a small card. It's about a 3'x3' square. I am including a second photo to show you how the butterfly had some dimension to it. Ooops... I forgot to mention that the doodling image was stamped with a TAC (The Angel Company) stamp and then covered with Crystal Stickles.

Blog BLESSINGS

Have you thought about some of the blessings in your life lately? I have and there is so much to be thankful for. I am for the adversity I have been through and continue to experience. Such times keep me on my knees in prayer and humble enough to realize that I need God everyday, every hour, and every moment. I've seen so many prayers answered in ways I never thought possible. It's so cool to see God work. He's better at it than anyone I know. We would be here all day if I started listing all my blessings and answered prayer but I guess I will save that for another day.

I started this post to share some of my blog blessings that I received last week. I am grateful and happy to be thought of enough to receive such blessings. Even my Mom has started sending me care packages. She doesn't stamp... she sews and she's mighty good at it too. With her help I was able to get my parka cover made last year. Anyhow, she sent me some tissue paper, a Costco My Mind's Eye paper stack, and these cool sentiment stamps. I also received some Bella images and a note from Shannon K and some My Favorite Things images and a pretty card from Corie,Creations by Corie. And finally I received my prize from Kerry, The Stamping Bug. I had won a sketch card contest she did a while back ago. Check out her beautiful TAC (The Angel Company) card she included.

THANK YOU ALL FOR MY BLOG BLESSINGS!

CELEBRATE!

Guess WHAT?! I am so excited to let you all know that my stampin' celebrity (aka my Best Friend) has finally started her own blog! You can now find Laurie Serino, another gal from Barrow, in blogland. You can see her first post at: http://stampingforgodsglory.blogspot.com.

PHOTO: The picture is from this year's Church Valentine Banquet. It happens to be Andrew and my wedding anniversary too. For the last two years Laurie has made a special cake to celebrate. So here she is with the our anniversary cake at the banquet at Arctic Pizza.

Ultimate BLOG Candy List

Have you been to Rocks in My Dryer yet?! OH BOY does she have the list of all lists. There you will find all the blog candies entering the Dog Days of Summer Bloggy Giveaway thingy. Now I haven't visited all the sites listed there but I must say that I have found some blogs that are pretty interesting and not stamping related. Who would of guessed that there are blogs out there that don't even mention ink, rubber stamps, and designer paper?! WOW-wee.

GROOVY Lamp

I was so excited to receive my Flourishes Design Team package last Thursday. Unfortunately, we were headed out to do my very first official photo shoot. It was my first shoot behind the camera on official business. We did a family portrait session for some friends here in town. Anyhow, I also had a technique class to stop by after the shoot at Laurie's. So when Andrew handed me the box from Flourishes, I didn't have more than a few minutes to look them over and no time to stop and play. It was so hard not to think about my box of Flourishes goodies waiting for me at home all evening. The next day I took out the box and just stared at it all... ribbons, paper, and stamps OH MY! Many ideas were flowing. It was then a matter of inking them all out. I waited until Saturday night before I actually started to design my first cards. By then I had psyched myself out and kept messing up. It wasn't until Sunday night that I finally had two cards completed and ready for Flourishes. Here's my second card that I made last Sunday night. I call it my "Groovy Lamp".

For My FRIEND

In my personal life I am trying to workout a schedule for me and my seven month old daughter. My biggest thing is that I like to stamp at night. It just seems now that I've been a stay at home mom that I can't squeeze in my stamping time. Now that I am purposely making a schedule for me and Ellie I've been able to stamp two mornings in a row. I am so liking this. So here's a card that was inked out this am using Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge #11. I like how she encouraged us to use her sketch as a starting point. I chose to use stamps in place of the different paper blocks in her sketch. The colors were inspired by a lovely prize I received yesterday from Kerry. Thank you so much Kerry, The Stamping Bug, for the card goodies!

TAG-ged

Have you been to Tara's blog yet? It's called Tara's Paper Crafts. She tagged me over the weekend and so I thought I'd share seven things about me where I live.

1) I live in a village called Barrow. In Inupiat it is called Ukpiagvik (A Place to Hunt Snowy Owls).

2) I am half Inupiat and Caucasian. The Inupiat are the native Alaskans that live on the North Slope of Alaska. Inupiats along with the Eskimos of the northern nations (like Canada & Greenland) are collectively called Inuit. At least that is the way I understand it. Technically, I would say that I am Inupiat.

3) I am a Californian raised Eskimo. This means that I grew-up not here in the village but in California. I love my childhood in California and as an adult I am very happy to be settled here in Barrow.

4) When traveling from the Lower 48 to Barrow it takes an average of four to five stops and at least three air plane changes before you arrive to my town. Air fare is outrageously expensive and the travel is long.

5) Our roads are pavement-less and boy does it get dust during the summer. We have a water truck that sprinkles the main roads to help keep the dust down. Speaking of roads... we don't have any road systems that connect us to the rest of Alaska. Sometimes there is an ice road but by the time I would want to travel it it is long gone and melted away.

6) We don't have door to door mail services. The only way to receive your mail here is through the Post Office. When I first arrived in Barrow there weren't any PO Boxes left. I received all my mail as "General Delivery". This meant that I had to wait in line to get my mail every single time I went to the PO. This was a big social event. You could visit with so many different people while waiting for your mail. At least a quarter of town used to flow through the PO after work. It's so different compared to the PO's in the Lower 48 ...no one talks to each other and everyone are strangers. Not up here. I know at least 95% of the people I see at the post office.

7) Just for fun I am including this tid-bit. I don't live in an igloo and I've never seen couples rubbing noses. I've seen babies rubbing their faces into their mommy's neck but I don't think that counts as rubbing noses.

To sum it up, the thing I've learned most about living in the arctic is that I can learn to live with far less and make do with what I have but it sure is nice to have the internet! If you can find a vendor that ships to Alaska via the Postal system without additional charges YOU"VE GOT IT MADE!

THANK YOU ALL!

Hey, thank you all for your encouragement and well wishes. It does my heart merry to read each comment and email that I receive as a result of this blog.
BIG THANKS!

FLOURISHES!

Oh I am too nervous.... so I'm just gonna put it out there!!! Here's my first creation for the Flourishes design team. I am so glad that I didn't have a clue what the other ladies on the team were doing with their stamps because it would of gave me stampers block. So far I have made two cards with the stamps and I finished them up this morning.

MORE of Me

Today at church the sermon was an encouragement to be a soul winner... to put your efforts in letting Christ use you to point others to God and to present the saving truth of the gospel. So here I am wanting you to know God as your Saviour as I know him.

Even the song we sang in choir today went with the message. It's called "Without Him" by Mylon R. LeFevre. Here's the Refrain: "Jesus, O Jesus! Do you know Him today? Do not turn Him away. O Jesus, O Jesus! Without Him, how lost I would be."

As you know stamping is a big part of my life as is my family and friends but what should be most important is my relationship with God. I hope more than anything that this blog will honor my relationship with God and would point all who stop by and visit to God's saving grace whether you are a Christian or not. God is and will remain a part of my life here in the arctic and everywhere I go and I encourage you to search God out in everything you do too.

"For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world: but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
John 3:17 & 18

Take THREE

It just dawned on me right before I was closing my eyes to try to sleep that had not started on the last card for the Sketch This: Cards three week contest! This morning I had an early start and put this dandy shoe-be-do card together. Since I live in a very remote place, I don't have cable, and there aren't any malls here, I am really out of touch with style and trends for the in crowd. I hope my choice of stamps aren't too out dated. I love shoe stamps. I don't know what it is??? Now that I think about it I love older styles period. I used to collect vintage everything when I had easy access to a variety of neat thrift stores. My vintage clothes collection was eclectically me. I loved it! Now a days it's about staying warm more than staying in style. I have the fluff to proof it too!

My CUP

My cup is running over. I thank God for so many blessings. I have my health. My children are growing. My marriage is amazing and now I am making stamping friends all over the world. Kim has quickly become one of my sweetest stamping friends from the lower 48. Look, she sent me a Bella hug! It's such a cute stamp. It's called Huggybella from Stamping Bella. Thank you Kim for being my friend. It means so much to me.

BIG SMILES!

Blogger Sugah

Corie, Creations by Corie, and Kim, Crafty Me, have both nominated Inkcicles for a Rockin' Girl Blogger award. How cool is that?! Could God make my day any more exciting? I don't think I could handle it. This morning I was reflecting over what has been going on recently with my stamping and I was reminded that God makes all things possible and I was also reminded that when you seek Him He gives you the desires of your heart. (As in He puts the desires in your heart not gives you every whim that you desire. :-) I am thankful to God for putting stamping and the people who stamp in my life. What an awesome God indeed!

Part of being nominated for this award is to nominate five more bloggers. I am nominating these five blogging stampers because to me they are awesome in creativity, dedicated to sharing their stamping ideas, and have been an encouragement to me.

Here are my Rockin' Girl Bloggers:

Kim Burgess, Crafty Me, http://www.craftyme-kimberly.blogspot.com/

Rebecca Grohall, Bella Carta, http://bellacarta.typepad.com/rebecca/
Michelle Weaver, Princess Matilda Loves to Stamp, http://princessmatildalovestostamp.blogspot.com/

If I could nominate a few more Rockin' Girl Bloggers I would also include:

Okay out all my cards that I have posted in galleries the few cards that I have made with this lovely lady get the least amount of comments. If any at all. Hello

Hey there, I was working on a card this afternoon to post tonight but my day got away from me and now it's bed time and my card is still not complete. Whew. Maybe in the morn I'll get it done. It's been such a blessed day and I look forward to tomorrow.

Thank you Laurie for the wonderful dinner and stamping talk. YOU are a very dear friend and value you, your creativity, your style, your prayers, and your family. Thank you for caring for me and my family.

SECRET Keeper

Here it is Monday and I just realized that I didn't stamp all weekend. I did however assemble this cool little album put out by Rusty Pickle. It's called the Secret Keeper. Once I got started it came together pretty fast. I really like the cleaver design and how easy it was to make. I didn't follow the directions line by line but that's the liberty you have with paper crafting and an at home craft kit. The only thing left to do is pick some pictures and add some journalling. Knowing me I'll probably stamp in it too. I will definitely consider buying more of these kind of kits in the future.

My Sisters ~ Brenda & Cassandra

Cassandra is my little sister. She's a life coach and she just emailed me to let me know that she is a contributing writer for the American Chronicle. Way to go CASSANDRA! In honor of her happy news I thought I'd share her article. You can find it here. I also have linked her website in my sidebar under the Family Business heading. There you will find my husband Andrew's business site too. I am so proud of both of them.

Brenda is my middle sister and I must also mention how much I am inspired by her also. She has been with her husband for almost twenty years now, she is raising my three beautiful nieces, and she volunteers at their local pet shelter. She has the biggest heart of anyone I know. Besides keeping a clean house Brenda also fosters rescued animals and has a mini family of pets of their own. It was Brenda's birthday yesterday and I didn't mention it here.

Brenda,
It sounded like you were having a good day. I LOVE YOU, BREN! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS!
~me

I wanted to share a photo of us girls together but these will have to do instead. I can't find the ones I'm looking for. They must of already been archived.

Whew, are you keeping up with this post? Lastly or in conclusion, I've added our church website in the side bar. Don't skip out on checking the link to our church website. You can find it at www.cbbcbarrow.org.

PHOTOS: Andrew took the picture of me and Cassandra last year or the year before when we went down for vacation. It's not too old compared to the one of me and Brenda. That one was taken in a photo booth at Great America for her 21st b-day. We both are in our 30's now. Can't believe it's been that long ago...my oh my how time flies!

LOVED-ED

Boy do I feel loved-ed! To be more accurate I should write that I feel blessed. I don't know how it happened other than God's blessings to have won a couple of blog candies and two card contests. To top it off Florence of Flossie Goes Hi Tech sent me a thinking of you card with goodies. Here's a peek at my stampin' loot that came in over the last two days. The first picture is a prize from Couture Scrapbook, blog candy from Rose Ann at Paper Delightz, and my goodies from Florence. Thank you all for making me feel so loved-ed.

We've had lots go on today and I'm hoping to go play with my new stuff later tonight. If I can get something inked out I'll post it tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to visit Inkcicles today. BIG SMILES!
