My husband called me so excited this afternoon... look what he spotted scratching it's belly on the gravel at the beach! It's a bowhead whale!!! I've seen a whale here and there but never this close! I've been told by locals that the whales migrating by will come close to shore and scratch their belly's on the gravel. I am so excited for Andrew to see such a site! He happened to be driving back to the office when this photo op became available. I was stuck at home without a ride down to the beach. No worries... I am sure I will have a chance to see one of these belly itching sessions in person some day.

WOW, what an awesome sight, hope you get to see it in person soon, thanks for sharing it.
Well, that's pretty exciting!
How cool!
Coooool! I've always wanted to see a whale, but never did. You'd think I could see a bunch of humpbacks since they migrate right through Hawaii, but it's just one of those things where I want to do it but never go. Maybe I should grab a boat with Jen one migrating season, lol!
Cool pics! TFS :0) I am off to see what kind of whale this is...never heard of it before! :0)
